What's the Factors Affecting the Quality Index of High Purity Alumina

Jun. 05, 2020

1. Particle size distribution

The vast majority of high purity alumina powder requires high purity and ultrafine, narrow particle size distribution and no hard agglomeration. Therefore, the particle size of powdered alumina affects its quality index and also determines its application industry.

2. Impurities and trace elements

Sodium is the main impurity in alumina, followed by trace impurities SiO2, Fe2O3 and other trace impurities. Although the content of impurities in high-purity alumina is low, it does not rule out that some trace impurities affect the quality of high-demand products.

3. Moisture index

Most alumina application industries have requirements on the moisture of raw materials. If the moisture of the raw materials exceeds the standard, it needs to be dried before they can be used, which will lead to an increase in the drying time of the material, that is, increased energy consumption (drying energy consumption, time cost); if the raw material If the moisture exceeds the standard, it can be used directly without drying, which will cause defects in product quality. Therefore, detecting the moisture of alumina can not only control the cost, but also improve the quality of the product.

4. Particle morphology

Different applications require alumina powder with different particle morphology. For example, spherical micropowder has good fluidity and sintering characteristics, which is very beneficial for the casting of ceramic products; for electronic material packaging, spherical high-purity alumina has better heat dissipation capability.
